Post-truth It’s a reality that we are supposed to be living with right now and we must fight back

With the advent of 24/7 news and the arrival of Fox News and a Republican party that didn’t want to accept facts that went against their policy direction – facts and conspiracy theories have become more and more part of the everyday lexicon and it has become a pattern that is destroying our country.

The Democratic Party and more widely those of us who believe in facts and in following basic rules and societal norms are in a difficult position. When lies are told as truths. When conspiracy theories are bandied about as if true. How does one fight?

The United States people are being told up is down, right is wrong, scientists are liars, the news is corrupt, our government is out to get us, the elites (whatever that is) are evil,  politicians just lie, fact checkers have an agenda, lies are bending the truth, and it goes on….

How do we fight our way back to a place where truth means something?

How do we fight back to a place where there is only one reality?

How do fight back to where facts matter?

How do we find a way where minority rule does not become the standard?

How do the Democrats and people of principle stand against a Republican Party that has no problem lying, that develops their own reality?

The Democrats aren’t losing on ideas.

The Democrats aren’t losing in numbers.

The Democrats are losing to an archaic system that has been manipulated in ways the founders never meant.

The Democrats are losing to people who don’t care about lying.

The Democrats are losing to money that will do anything, sacrifice anything, to make more money.

We need to do something.

We need to recover our Democracy.

We need to recover the truth.

Facts have to matter.

If they don’t we are lost, our country is lost, and quite likely our world  as well.

I don’t know how to fix this. I just know we need to work together to make sure that we do.
