I don’t know what to do
I look around and don’t recognize what I see
A country where anger and hate took precedent
What I fought for was freedom
What I fought for was equality
What I fought for was truth
What I fought for was honor
The vitriol, the anger, the chanting, the lies, the bullying
I can’t stand it
That was what it took to “win”
That we will ignore the interference
That we will ignore Russia’s disinformation
That we will ignore the FB I’s all too convenient intervention
That we will ignore the Republican’s flat out interference
That we will ignore the Republican’s special hearings that were uncalled for and without result
That we will ignore the Republican’s purposeful and articulated voter suppression
That we will ignore actual conflicts of interest
That we will ignore actual lies
That we will ignore actual bullying
Leaves me in despair
I don’t recognize this country
Despair, pain, hurt
We were supposed to be better than this
A shining city
The city is dull and falling
My hope shattered
